At number 8 High Street, The Butcher’s Hook brings a small pub’s easy conversation to the centre of Thornbury. Come for a drink between errands, stay for the company.

Take a stroll from the High Street towards Thornbury Castle, then pull up a stool at our wooden bar. The taps change, the welcome stays familiar, and the team can help you find a beer or cider to enjoy alongside something from the kitchen.
Settle in over a bite to eat, from easy bar snacks to a relaxed meal, and make an afternoon or evening of it. Thursday’s quiz gives friends something to disagree about, while our team is always happy to help you plan a visit with a group.

The building tells a story
A different sort of butcher’s shop.
The name belongs to the building as much as the pub. This Grade II-listed High Street address dates to the mid-seventeenth century and spent around two hundred years as a butcher’s shop, according to CAMRA’s record of the property.
Today, its beams, fireplaces and separate rooms make the setting feel wonderfully personal. Look for the small details as you settle in: the old doorway, the timber and the spaces that make a conversation feel like it has its own corner. It is a pub to get to know over more than one visit.
